Rail travelers in eastern India, particularly those commuting through Bhagalpur, are ready to face major disruptions on the Vikramshila Express May 17 train due to essential infrastructure work. The Eastern Railway has announced a scheduled traffic and power block at Ratanpur station for the construction of a subway, resulting in multiple train delays and cancellations. The Vikramshila Express, a key long-distance train connecting Bhagalpur to New Delhi, will be among the most impacted, with a delay of four hours from its scheduled departure. Passengers are advised to stay updated and plan their journeys accordingly.
Vikramshila Express May 17 to Run 4 Hours Late

Bhagalpur-May 15-Travelers in the Bhagalpur – Jamalpur rail section on 17 May should be prepared for massive backup and cancellation of trains. A scheduled subway building service at Crossing Gate No. 16, Night Ratanpur Station, will require a one-hour blockade of traffic and disruptions in a power line, leading to a knock-on effect on rail services such as the popular Vikramshila Express. Because of this infrastructure development, there is more than one train that will either arrive late or be partially canceled, according to the news reported by the Eastern Railway’s Malda Division.
Major Train Delays: Vikramshila and Garib RathÂ
The Vikramshila Express is a highly affected service that will leave behind the Bhagalpur four hours late on 17th May as opposed to the scheduled timing. It was now scheduled for departure at 3:55 PM as opposed to the usual departure time. The Garib Rath Express bound for Bhagalpur from Delhi will also be late by five hours and arrive late at Bhagalpur in the evening. In its return, it will depart from Bhagalpur at 7.55 PM, five hours later than its usual time of departure.
The Jansewa Express between Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur will also suffer a one-hour delay. In the same way, the Jamalpur-Rampurhat Passenger will start operations 2 hours and 10 minutes later.
Train Cancellations: List of Services
Some of the local and MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) services have been scrapped altogether because of the work. These include:
- 73430/73429 Bhagalpur–Jamalpur Passenger
- 63423/63424 Jamalpur–Kiul MEMU Passenger
These cancellations will be especially frustrating for the local commuters who rely on the services to get around daily.
Short-term Termination and Route ChangesÂ

To control the congestion and make the operation easier, Eastern Railway has announced terminations and origin point changes for a few long-distance trains. These adjustments include:
- Train 13230 Rajendra Nagar–Godda Express will arrive at Kiul on the 16th of May.
- Train 13229 Godda– Rajendra Nagar Express shall start from Kiul and not Godda from May 17.
- 13409/13410 Malda Town–Kiul Intercity Express will only go up to Bhagalpur and back from there.
- 63431/63432 Sahibganj–Jamalpur MEMU Passenger will work up to Bhagalpur.
Delays Across the Board: Intercity and Express Services Affected (Vikramshila Express May 17)
A flood of other trains that will be passing through this corridor will also be delayed:
- Malda Town to New Delhi Express will leave Malda two and a half hours late and arrive in Bhagalpur late.
- Sahibganj–Danapur Intercity will begin five hours behind schedule on 17 May. So, the journey from Danapur will also be delayed for the same period.
- The Patna-Dumka Express and its return service will be behind schedule by five hours.
- Rampurhat-Gaya Passenger will have a delay of around 30 minutes.
Advisory for Passengers
The railway authorities have pleaded with the passengers to download the latest schedule changes for their journey. The delays are being accommodated as a long-range plan to enhance infrastructure and improve the traffic flow through the replacement of levels with subways. Although the delays may be frustrating, they are a valuable part of modernizing and enhancing the safety procedures. Passengers should remain updated through the official communication channels of the railways and act accordingly.
For those booking tickets in the Vikramshila Express May 17 train, the train leaves Bhagalpur at 3:55 PM.
