Bhagalpur, Bihar: Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) has recently taken bold steps to enhance the fitness and sports culture of the staff and students by opening an array of facilities at its university stadium. Recently started facilities include badminton, volleyball, table tennis, and a gym, in addition to the already functional yoga classes. This initiative falls under the vision of Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaharlal, who has also directed that enhanced sports facilities be made available post the relocation of the university’s sports office into a newly constructed building. The primary focus of this initiative is to promote sports and fitness culture among the youth. TMBU sports registration is currently open for the university staff and students.

TMBU Sports Registration: Open for Students And Staff

The new sports facilities are already open for registration, however, with limited access. This is applicable not only to the students but also to the university’s teaching, non-teaching, and administrative staff. As part of this initiative, all members of the university community must undertake physical exercise for health purposes.
The fee structure of this program is particularly noteworthy. To encourage the enrollment of girl students and further gender equity, TMBU has made all sports facilities completely free for female students. Conversely, male students need to pay a small fee of ₹100 per month. This token amount will support the upkeep and sustainability of these facilities while still being affordable to a majority of students.
These facilities will not only be accessible to the university community but also to several organizations and schools within the city of Bhagalpur. For external organizations and institutions, a separate fee structure has been established. So, the stadium can also serve as a resource for the community. This allows the university to stand as a focal point of not only academic achievement but also holistic sports and fitness development for the region.
The university made this decision concerning the enhancement of the sporting ecosystem in the context of rising physical inactivity amongst youth due to sedentary lifestyles, excessive screen time, long hours spent in academic settings, and other recent lifestyle changes.

Culture of Fitness At TMBU

The facilities have a good level of preparedness. Badminton and volleyball courts have been outfitted with appropriate floors and nets. The table tennis boards are ready for practice and competition. Equipment such as weights, treadmills, and cycles is already present in the gym, enabling students to avail of modern fitness facilities to exercise during their free periods or breaks. Furthermore, the ongoing yoga classes will escalate in order to provide for the greater demand.
As university officials put it, this motivation goes beyond the realm of sports; it encompasses the intention to create a complete educational atmosphere where scholars will find balanced and synergetic concern for their body, intellect, and spirit during and outside academic endeavors.
The administration has also hinted at future strategies, which include the organization of inter-departmental tournaments, yoga for the community, and fitness days, which are likely to further galvanize the student body and invigorate campus sports culture.
