Everyone was looking forward to how Bhagalpur Super Specialty Hospital would meet and exceed healthcare needs in the region, with all the latest machines, excellent diagnostics, and high-end treatment. Even after installing, things start to change once you spend time on it. The facility currently has 22 medical machines, valued in crores, that are just standing unused inside. And while the CT scan is out of order and the authorities are being slow, it looks like high-quality healthcare is stuck in the ICU for people in Bhagalpur. Is there anything significant happening in the hospital that is meant to change how healthcare is provided?
Another situation of unhelpful healthcare infrastructure has put Bhagalpur Super Specialty Hospital in the news for all the wrong reasons. Because of the unused high-end medical equipment in the hospital, patients are missing out on important diagnostics and care. Since several committees were formed and several briefings held, the machines needed to help in the indoor and surgical units have still not started functioning. The result is that individuals with medical needs must wait until a doctor or medical facility can provide treatment.
Machines Await Installation at Bhagalpur Super Specialty Hospital

The 22 machines meant for the Bhagalpur Super Specialty Hospital have not been put to use. Despite the fact that an oversight team was responsible for getting them working, the progress has really slowed down. The advisory committee has the hospital superintendent, as well as important section heads such as Dr. Rajkamal Chaudhary (Medicine), Dr. C.M. Sinha (Surgery), Dr. Kumar Ratnesh, and nodal officer Dr. Mahesh Kumar.
The catch is that the head departments haven’t been chosen yet for all departments. Without a department head, there will be no inspections of the machines, thus no diagnostics can be performed. Several machines have been checked, but there are more that are still in red tape. Dr. Mahesh Kumar stated that waiting for all key department heads prevents the full start of the hospital. Until this happens, the pricey equipment in the hospital remains unused and unattended.
CT Scan Machine Breakdown Adds to Patient Woes
Things are made worse by the fact that the CT scan machine at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital has been broken for several successive days. The cause is a grounding (earthing) system that is not working properly.
Dr. Sachin Kumar asked the electricity department to repair the radiology department’s faulty equipment over one week ago. Yet, nothing has been done. When they cannot get tested at a hospital CT scan facility, patients often have to see private centers and pay much higher costs. Looking at where these patients once had scans done in the hospital, they are seeing growing health bills. Every day, about 40 to 45 patients need CT scans at this location. Because of slow bureaucracy, 40 to 45 people are impacted negatively every single day.
Administrative Gaps Hindering Bhagalpur Super Specialty Hospital
In spite of having advanced medical equipment, Bhagalpur Super Specialty Hospital does not provide the specialized care it advertises. Because there are no appointed department heads and maintenance issues have not been solved, the machine is stuck.
The purpose of these tools is to make sure people receive a diagnosis fast, so diseases can be treated early and the outcomes are improved. Still, without someone checking their effectiveness, they are only expensive tools with no value. In addition, waiting longer sends a negative message to the community, mostly to those who count on government hospitals for good health services. Besides the structure, what is important in a hospital is its usefulness, easy access, and swift treatment. At present, Bhagalpur is not doing well in any of these areas.
The situation for students is unresolved at the moment:
- The facility where CT scans are performed is not working today.
- Patients must continue to pay more out of pocket in other places.
- The administration is still searching for the right people to be in the right positions.
If electricity and departmental assignments are not dealt with, Bhagalpur Super Specialty Hospital may become known for missed chances in public health infrastructure.
