Bhagalpur, Bihar: Following the Indian Army’s surgical strike on terrorist camps located in the north, code-named Operation Sindoor, security agencies throughout India have intensified efforts directed at protecting public infrastructure. As part of these efforts, Eastern Railway’s Malda Division A-class facility, Bhagalpur Railway Station, is undergoing improvements to its surveillance system. In this regard, Bhagalpur Railway security has reported the addition of thirty-eight (38) new high-end CCTV cameras at the coaching yard, including the most sensitive and high-risk areas around the station.
Bhagalpur Railway Security: Strategic Surveillance Zones

Technological enhancements are being applied to Bhagalpur Railway security. Its perimeter has been subdivided by authorities into video monitoring regions. As outlined by RPF Inspector Amit Kumar Giri, CCTV cameras will be set up at:
- The vicinity of Platform 1, adjacent to the Lohia Bridge, experiences considerable pedestrian traffic.
- The lobby area regularly sees public and staff interactions.
- Pit lines on either side where rakes are parked and washed.
- Directly outside the AEN (Assistant Engineer) office, which is an important place for supervision of maintenance activities
- Adjacent to sick lines, the shelter of non-functioning coaches.
- Proximate to the Bholanath Railway Bridge.
- The shunting neck, a vital place for rake and train shunting.
The station master’s control room shall serve as the hub for monitoring all 38 cameras. This will provide an uninterrupted window into the operation of the station and its environs to detect any unusual activities or contraventions of standard operating procedures.
This approach will enhance personnel discipline and compliance for railway staff, as well as enable faster reaction times for emergencies. In light of current circumstances, the reinforced surveillance system will function as both a deterrent and a shield, serving dual purposes.
Railway Protection Forces Under Strict Orders

This operation’s trigger was the gruesome terrorist on-slaughter of April 22. The massacre was shocking to the entire world, as the public outrage fed the already burning rage directed towards the government.
Operation Sindoor now stands as a coordinated airstrike over this provocation. Such airstrikes are India’s decisive answer to the requests and pleas of the government. In the subsequent years, intelligence agencies have maintained the surge of high-level lenses pointed at all government state issues, alerting to any hint of suspicious behavior.
As per the national level security protocols, the RPF and GRP have the duty of hands-free enforcement of heightened surveillance. Increased vigilance includes unpatrolled areas and those where negligence has previously been a route.
Amit Kumar Giri further explains the utmost concern towards the safety of passengers, along with staff and railway facilities. New CCTVs are solutions to the supervision of employee activities, unauthorized access, and interference with property.

Bhagalpur Railway Security: No Room For Complacency

Despite Bhagalpur not facing any direct threats, the authorities are not taking any chances. The Eastern Railway Malda Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) has ordered a complete Bhagalpur railway security check. A survey of the station’s surroundings has been completed, the report has been sent to the DRM’s office for action.
As we have seen, asymmetric threats such as terrorism require particular vigilance and thorough preparation. Modern surveillance technologies are a precaution rather than a response. It showcases a shift in the approach to homeland security in India. Do you think these new changes will help create a better Bhagalpur railway security system?
