To boost Bihar’s textile industry, Chirag Paswan, Lok Janshakti Party chief, sent a letter to PM Modi, hoping that the Bhagalpur PM Mitra Yojana will be covered in the national scheme. The objective of the PM Mitra Yojana is to construct large textile parks throughout India to help the textile industry flourish. In his letter, Paswan emphasized how Bhagalpur contains many unexplored opportunities in silk weaving.
Bhagalpur, aka the Silk City, is famous for its Tussar silk. Because of its many family weavers, Bhagalpur has maintained its importance in India’s handloom and dye industry. National plans for the textile industry have not highlighted the city’s importance. He mentioned that because of this mishap, local weavers have suffered economically, and many crafts have declined.
Bhagalpur’s Inclusion in the Scheme

Chirag Paswan mentioned that the textile industry of Bhagalpur struggles because of old technology, a lack of infrastructure, and challenges in finding markets. He explained that, by including Bhagalpur in the PM Mitra Yojana, its cultural traits and way of living would be upheld. The sector would have the advantages needed for modernization, and exports would increase. Paswan believes that the new scheme would greatly aid in improving the region’s economic condition.
The aim of PM Mitra Yojana is to develop state-of-the-art textile parks in various states, encourage foreign investments, and help create more jobs. This scheme is ongoing in Maharashtra, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. People are questioning why Bihar is not present in the list despite Bhagalpur’s rich textile history. This is in line with other influential Bihar leaders who want more attention for their state in central development plans. Previously, Sudhakar Singh, the MP from Buxar, also asked for Bihar’s inclusion in the PM Mitra scheme. The movement reveals there is greater demand for the government to increase funding for industrial development in Bihar, especially in historical Bhagalpur, due to its skilled labor.
Bhagalpur PM Mitra Yojana: Vision of Silk City
Paswan wants to improve Bihar’s economy and to give it the respect it deserves by pushing for the Bhagalpur PM Mitra Yojana. By launching a textile park in Bhagalpur, he plans to use new methods to restore Bhagalpur’s traditional sectors. The Union Textile Minister stated that the conditions for inclusion were based on the criterion the minister had followed. He argued that Bhagalpur already satisfies many of the points, and upgrading it will only require some support. He asked the central government to realize the importance of Bhagalpur and grant it benefits from the scheme.
Therefore, including traditional textile hubs in the government’s agenda is vital, as it reflects the view of Chirag Paswan. If we bring together traditions with modern ideas using projects like PM Mitra, the textile industry will grow, help local people, and ensure a safer future for India.
