According to her family, Sajan and his relatives had some other plans in mind, and those plans came with an expense. Not long after their marriage, the family members of Kajal’s husband reportedly asked for cash and valuables to show their approval of her joining the family.

Sushila Devi, Kajal’s mother, recalled the tough history of these experiences. Her daughter frequently called and told her about the difficulties she struggled with in school. They wanted more from us financially, and when we said no, they began acting as if she was a problem. Things became worse as time passed by. She reportedly went through mental abuse, hearing threats all the time, and suffering from physical abuse as well.
Sajan phoned Sushila Devi and informed her sadly that Kajal was no longer alive. Suspicions rose when Sajan stopped being reachable on the phone. He did not reply to messages sent to him. Soon afterward, he tried to sneak Kajal’s body to his native village in Pirpainti, possibly hoping to burn her body.
Luckily, the police didn’t hesitate to respond. Acting according to Sushila Devi’s complaint, police caught Sajan in the area near Jicho village. Kajal’s body was found, and the authorities started a thorough investigation. Following the case, it was reported to the Barari police station under dowry death and cruelty offenses listed in IPC Sections 304B and 498A.
